The
Location

Nairobi

Located in east Africa, Kenya may be known for its vast landscapes—from the coastline on the Indian Ocean to the savannah valleys. It also can’t go without mentioning the great number of species that make their homes in these lands, such as giraffes, elephants, lions, and rhinos. While there is much beauty to be seen in Kenya, brokenness paints the landscape as well with statistics such as these: nearly 50% of Kenya’s urban population lives in slums; 84% of Kenyans live on less than $5.50 a day; and only half of the population of Kenya has education beyond the primary level.

On this trip to Kenya, Engage partners with Mavuno Churchwho is bringing hope to broken places through the name of Jesus. As a part of this team, you will get to join with several Mavuno church plants through evangelism and outreach both in the urban city of Nairobi and the rural villages of Migori—even visiting the location and setting where CIY filmed it’s most recent short-film “Where The River Divides.” One month after the filming, a Mavuno church was planted (Mavuno Migori) as a result of God working through the prayer and evangelism that took place on set. Visiting this new church plant will be a great encouragement to the people in Migori!

Mavuno Church
Motto:

Turning ordinary people into fearless influencers of society.

Focus:

Church Planting / Evangelism / Discipleship

Mavuno exists to see real people with real issues coming to Jesus, having their lives transformed, and becoming change agents to transform society. Their focus is to enable every member of Mavuno to become a fearless influencer in one of the sectors of society. As a result, their city, nation, and continent will be transformed for Christ. The main places in society they seek to influence: church and missions, economy and business, politics and governance, media and the arts, health and the environment, and education and family.
